Lifestyle Information

(These are all genuine photos taken within South Canterbury)

With its close proximity to lakes, mountains, forests, rivers and the sea, South Canterbury affords superior lifestyle and recreation opportunities. Rock climbing, hiking, bush walks, kayaking, boating, river rafting, mountain biking, four-wheeling, golfing and more are all available. There are also at least four ski fields within 1-2 hours drive of the district’s main centre, Timaru.

South Canterbury has long been viewed as a friendly, safe place to raise a family. The district has excellent primary and secondary schools and a local polytechnic. Timaru boasts the added advantage of being only two hours drive from the university cities of Dunedin and Christchurch, which also has an international airport.
